Sasai: An African Technological Milestone

__#SeniorClass: today it’s your turn!

Today I want to share excerpts (edited for this page) from a blog article shared here a few days ago by someone in our #SeniorClass who looked at our new Sasai venture as an entrepreneur, not a consumer. Take a look at the work by this young writer who has been following this page for some time, like many of you, then let me know what you think… as an entrepreneur! I’ll be sharing a few new exciting developments here later this week, but today, let’s talk…

“An African Technological Milestone” by Progress Ibrahim (I will share the link below)

“The United Nations estimated the current world population to be 7.7bn people. This is forecast to be 8bn and 10bn people living on this planet in 2023 and 2055 respectively. According to this population is shared among the continents of the world: 61% of the population of the world lives in Asia, 17% in Africa, 8% in Latin America and the Caribbean, 10% in Europe and 5% in North America and Oceania.

What are the economic values of these metrics? The GDP of every continent depends on some factors: two among them are the population size and the technological level. So, the economy of Asia and Africa have good prospects in population-wise. What about the prospect of these two continents technology-wise? China and the Asian Tigers are leading the continent of Asia in terms of technological advancements. We have innovations such as 5G, AI, social media platforms such as WeChat, Alipay and Alibaba tech platforms evolving from China and Asia.

In the continent of Africa we have achieved little in the above areas but we are developing our own inventions and platforms. One of the outstanding technological breakthroughs in Africa recently is Sasai.

__Sasai’s Core Components

As Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella rightly put it: “Longevity in business lies in the ability of the business to reinvent itself or invent the future”. As it applies to the corporate world or business so it is to every economy because the growth of every economy and the strength of their currencies are hinged on their innovated and invented values.

Sasai is an African technology that combines the business models of traditional and modern businesses to form an outstanding business. It is a technology that is developed to operate with the future technological revolutions of AI and 5G. Sasai is a technology developed by Cassava Fintech International, a company in the Econet Group led by the prestigious African entrepreneur, Dr Strive Masiyiwa.

The core components of Sasai are: #Chat#Explore#Pay.

-The Chat Component

This is the aspect of the model that captures the social media business. Sasai chat is an instant messaging platform that works like the popular WhatsApp, WeChat, Facebook and Instagram among others. With Sasai chat you can communicate in voice, text and video with your family and friends and form great networks… Just chat once, you will chat with Sasai forever.

-The Explore Component

The explore component gives the users of the platform the opportunity to use products and services of their interest. You can explore music, videos, sports, games and tourist destinations and other interesting things that thrill you… Just explore, you will enjoy Sasai forever.

-The Pay Component

This is the aspect of the model that combines Mobile money, Fintech and Ecommerce. With Sasai pay you can pay for any services you explore and you can conveniently transfer cash from any country in the world . A good example is ordering a ride through Vaya and making the payment with Sasai, you can make online payments using SasaiPay features. You can now chat, Shop online, explore and make payment via Sasai pay…. just pay via Sasai, you will enjoy it forever…

__The Mind Blowing Benefits Of Sasai to Businesses and Users

What an amazing values users and businesses stand to benefit when you can chat, explore and pay with Sasai App. The product is a pan-African device; it is available for the 54 countries of Africa and those in the diaspora. The benefits are in two forms: #Sasai Benefits to Businesses and #Sasai Benefits to Users:

-Benefits To Businesses

Sasai platform will create many values or benefits for business owners and entrepreneurs in Africa. Some of them are;

# Facilities Financial Transactions: business owners can order anything via the Sasai platform and make the payment at the speed of touch. A good example is a business that needs logistic service. Such business can through Sasai order for a vehicle through Vaya and make payment through it for the services. In Nigeria there is e-tax payment, so with Sasai tax can be paid right from your Smartphone; SMEs can raise fund using crowdfunding strategy via the Sasai platform. What, what an amazing Sasai value propositions.

# Marketing platforms: Just as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Medium, WhatsApp provide analytical data for marketing for businesses. Sasai is a good platform that is useful to market your services and products.

-Benefits to Users

Some of the benefits to the users are as follow:

# Networking Benefits: the social media platform creates an opportunity to make friends across the entire continent. This friendship and connections could lead to great indirect benefits like the co-founders of Lyft, John Zimmer and Logan Green met on Facebook platform. Read about business models from this book #3SRules.

  1. Update on #Sasai:
Version 2 of the Sasai App has just been released. It not only addresses many of the suggestions made by you and some of our customers, but most importantly, it shows our vision for where we want it to go! For those of you who are entrepreneurs and wish to use this App to drive your own business, I suggest you take a good look at the @Explore icon. It now has 24 Apps on it!

Do you think you could add one yourself? You might even want to recommend some Apps that you think should be here. If you haven’t downloaded yet to check it out, go to or

  2. Afterthought 2.

#ShoutOut to entrepreneurial author Nicky Verd who just published her first book, “Disrupt Yourself or Be Disrupted” … (one of the books mentioned by Mr Ibrahim in his article above).

Congratulations on this great achievement! Let’s support Nicky by ordering/downloading her book if you can or borrow one from a friend, then I want to hear reviews from fellow entrepreneurs on this page. I’ll be sure to get my own copy soon. Next it could be you!

  3. #Pause:
When I arrived in London from Accra, I immediately boarded a flight to New York.
Since most transatlantic flights now have WiFi, I asked my Assistant to book a flight with good Wi-Fi. Throughout the flight, I was on Sasai discussing projects with senior executives, until it was too late in Africa, then I started to Sasai with colleagues in America, and Asia.
    It worked perfectly…
Tonight they will be releasing the upgraded version which corrects some of the challenges you have had. They will also release some of the amazing new features.
The French version of the App will also be released. And after that every two weeks you will see a new language added, including most of the African languages.
For me the most cool feature is … wait and see!

  4. #RemittancesFeesMustFall!
If you send money home to your parents and family you will no doubt be aware that it costs between 8-20% to send money to African countries, even from within Africa! Imagine it if were possible to lower that cost to say, 2.5%?! I intend to do just that! This is why we added a major new service on Sasai App: Global Remittances! It launches 1st September!

  5. #Reflection:
Some entrepreneurial ideas on what you can do with Sasai:

    #1. eCommerce:
If you sell goods and services, you can create an App, which links into Sasai’s eShop platform. This is going to be huge. Whilst we are going to link up the global platforms like Alibaba, Amazon, eBay, Jumia, Konga, etc. For you as an entrepreneur, it makes sense to sell your services. We will first give you an opportunity to sell into your domestic market but if there is demand we will open it to the global market.

    #2. Sasai eMarket Place:
In the next version of Explore we have created eMarket Place. We want to have a platform like Ownai in every single market. We are even discussing franchising Ownai to young entrepreneurs in each market.
We will also accept platforms like OLX, Gumtree, etc, and of course any local player.
This is an opportunity to set up platforms to sell foods, clothes, artifacts, services etc, unique to your country to a global audience.

#3. Music, media, etc. if you have favorite media sites, particularly for local content, like Econet’s Buddie Beats, you can either bring it here or just create an App. Explore allows you to do this!

The key to Sasai as a eCommerce platform comes from the fact that it is a platform that enables you to get paid for goods, services, content. There has never been a platform like it in Africa!

    What are you waiting for?!

Now don’t harass me with requests. Those who know what to do, know what to do!

  6. #Reflection 2:

    Opportunities for serious entrepreneurs!

For those entrepreneurs who have been studying the Sasai App closely, something you can only do by downloading it, with the sharp eye of an entrepreneur!
Did you see the @Scan icon?
What services could you Imagine for it?
Let me give you some of the ideas we are close to releasing:

#1. An App to scan for fake drugs!
Millions of people in Africa are buying fake drugs. Well now they will be able to scan the QR Code. We are registering importers of drugs, as well as pharmacists to use a simple Sasai scan!
#2. Sasai scan can be used to scan Fake fertilizers, fake seeds, fake documents!

These are just some of the hundreds of applications that we are developing for the Scan icon on Sasai.

Now if you have ideas don’t shout about them, just develop the App, and we will plug you in!

  7. #Reflection 3:
    Sasai Opportunities for serious entrepreneurs!

As an entrepreneur, Sasai allows you to place simple but effective adverts aimed at the 300m Africans who own a Smartphone!

I have asked the Sasai leadership team not to charge any member of this platform, who decides to market on Sasai for the next six months!
So why not develop little digital Ads, about your enterprise [including not for profit] and begin to market yourself!
I want to see the platform explode with your ads!

    What are you waiting for!

Strive Masiyiwa This is the solution Africa and African is waiting for… Please look into some of the challenges we facing with the app. For instance I couldn’t input my information after downloading. If only the system could be simplify.

    My reply,
By Monday you will have Version 2 on all App stores. It has cleared all the bugs that you currently have on “User Experience”, and has added new features.

Strive Masiyiwa and the Technite has been launched! Things are getting better. See me here singing Cumbaya! I’m even happier to learn that the donation button has been implemented. We don’t pray for disaster to happen, but when it did happen we can have coordination. I lost almost all my properties to dangerous flood where I live in Abuja on 19th of this month. When you dont have a roof over you heard, you will understand how hard this life is.

    We fight in the conditions.

    My reply,
I’m grieved to learn about the damage done to your home and property.
I will pray for you today:
